Tolu Arokodare sent a message of appreciation to Ajax fans for their support after his latest impressive outing for the club, following their 2-2 draw against Excelsior in a thrilling Eredivisie clash on Saturday.
“Thank you for the support always. See you in October,” the Nigerian forward wrote on his social media accounts after the match.
Arokodare continued his rich vein of form against Excelsior, scoring just two minutes after coming on to help Ajax rescue a point.
The visitors had completed a remarkable comeback to take a 2-1 lead in the 62nd minute. However, Arokodare denied them the chance to snatch victory, finding the back of the net with a brilliantly executed flick in the 64th minute.

The goal capped an impactful performance from the Nigerian forward, who attempted nine shots during his 28 minutes on the pitch, the most by a substitute in a single Eredivisie game on record since 2010/11.
Arokodare has now taken his tally for the season to six goals and two assists in nine appearances across all competitions. This already matches the number of goal contributions he recorded for Wolves throughout the 2025/26 season.
Ajax, fresh from back-to-back 5-1 victories over Fortuna Sittard and Willem II, thought it was business as usual when Julian Brandt opened the scoring in the 32nd minute.
However, Excelsior fought back to stun the hosts. Lennard Hartjes found the net in first-half stoppage time to make it 1-1 going into the break, before Aymen Sliti put the visitors 2-1 ahead in the 62nd minute to complete the comeback.
Arokodare, who was introduced just seconds before Excelsior’s second goal, provided an immediate impact to level the scores, finding the net with a proper striker’s finish to make it 2-2. Despite more opportunities at both ends, both sides settled for a point each.
The result means Ajax remain fourth in the Eredivisie with 14 points from seven games, two points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven. Excelsior, meanwhile, climb to seventh with 11 points.
Arokodare will aim to continue his form when he returns to the Super Eagles for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. The 25-year-old is part of a 24-man squad called up by Eric Chelle for Nigeria’s games against Madagascar on September 25 and Guinea-Bissau on September 29.
