Nigerian forward Anthony Ujah had a stellar debut for Botev Plodiv, scoring a goal and assisting another in their 2-1 victory over Maribor in the Europa League qualifying round.
Ujah wasted no time making his mark, opening the scoring in the 9th minute. He then played a key role in the winning goal, setting up Nikola Iliyanov Iliev in the 74th minute. His impressive performance earned him a well-deserved standing ovation when he was substituted in the 89th minute.
Anthony Ujah expressed his gratitude to the Botev Plovdiv fans for their enthusiastic support: “European night in Plovdiv. Proud of this team, amazing support from our fans.. let’s go for more.”
Two other Nigerians, Christian Nwachukwu and Samuel Akere, also saw playing time for Botev Plodiv. Nwachukwu was subbed off in the 71st minute, while Akere was replaced in the 81st minute.
