Midfielder, Alex Iwobi, would undergo a scan to ascertain the extent of the ankle injury suffered in Everton’s 3-1 FA Cup third round defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Friday.
Early in the second half of Everton’s 3-1 FA Cup third-round loss to United, Iwobi stumbled awkwardly after being tackled by defender Tyrell Malacia. He was stretched off in the 51st minute and replaced by Abdoulaye Doucouré as he could not continue the game despite being treated on the pitch.
The game was 1-1 when the Nigerian left the pitch and was one of their most influential players in the encounter.
Manager, Frank Lampard, would be hoping that the injury is not as serious as it looks, also revealing that the Nigeria international would undergo a scan on Saturday to ascertain the length of his injury.
“We hope it’s not too serious,” Lampard told EvertonTV. “It is an ankle ligament injury, we hope it’s a lesser one. He will have a scan tomorrow to confirm.”
The 26-year-old who has been superb for the club this season starting all 18 Premier League games so far could be sidelined for several weeks if the result comes back as a case of a bad ankle ligament injury.
