Alex Iwobi put up a 5-star performance for Everton who stunned Premier League leaders Arsenal 1-0 at Goodison Part on Saturday.
The game was the first under new manager, Dean Dyche, who recently took over from Frank Lampard who was sacked on January 23 after a string of winless streaks.
James Tarkowski in the 60th minute sent the home fans into raptures by heading in his first goal for the club from McNeil’s corner. The goal proved to be decisive as Arsenal failed to mount a successful comeback despite several attempts.
Iwobi who has played in central midfield under former manager Lampard, was deployed to the wings, a position he played absolutely well. He was also defensively clinical, helping Seamus Coleman ward off attacking threats from Arsenal’s pacy and tricky wingers Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.
It was the 121st appearance for Iwobi in the colours of the Toffees after leaving the Gunners on deadline day in the summer of 2019. Iwobi has been one of Everton’s most important players this season having provided five assists and scoring once in 21 games this season.
The performance of the Super Eagles star has been hailed by supporters of the club while popular Merseyside news publication Liverpool Echo rated him 7/10 in the encounter.
