Kelechi Iheanacho named Player of The Match in Leicester win

Kelechi Iheanacho in his second Premier League start of the season grabbed a goal and provided two assists for Leicester City in their 4-2 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday also winning the Man of The Match award.

Villa started brightly and were rewarded when Ollie Watkins put the hosts in front in the ninth minute. The lead however, did not last long as James Maddison grabbed the equaliser in the 12th minute after receiving a well placed pass from Iheanacho. Harry Souttar’s own goal in the 32nd minute restored the lead for the host but not for long.

Iheanacho got his name on the score sheet in the 41st minute, heading the ball into the back of the post after receiving a well-timed in-swinger from the left wing from Harvey Barnes. The Nigeria international once again turned provider for Tete who gave the visitors the lead in the 45th minute.

Dennis Praet made it 4-2 in the 79th minute to hand the Foxes their first league win in 2023 to relieve some pressure on under-fire manager, Brendan Rodgers.

Iheanacho, who was thrown into the starting line-up ahead of Jamie Vardy who recently returned from injury came off for the Englishman in the 67th minute. Iheanacho’s compatriot Wilfred Ndidi was not listed in the match day squad.

The 26-year-old was named Man of The Match in the win. According to fans’ votes on social media, Iheanacho claimed 54.8% of 1,640 votes while Tete had 30.9% of the votes to come second, Victor Kristiansen had 12.3% of the votes.

The goal takes Iheanacho’s tally to four in 21 appearances in all competitions.
