…Akor Adams set to attend first AFCON

Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke gave Sevilla a memorable send-off before departing for international duty with Nigeria (Super Eagles) ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), as both players found the net in a convincing 4–0 victory over Real Oviedo on Sunday.

After going seven games without a goal, Adams needed just four minutes to put Sevilla ahead, producing a composed finish after latching onto a perfectly weighted lofted through ball from Lucien Agoumé.

The Super Eagles striker then turned provider for Sevilla’s second goal in the 22nd minute, setting up Djibril Sow to send the hosts into the break with a comfortable 2–0 lead.

Adams picked up where he left off after the restart, wasting no time in assisting Baptiste Mendy for Sevilla’s third goal in the 51st minute. The result secured Sevilla’s first win in four games after a run of two defeats and two draws.

Substitute Chidera Ejuke, who replaced Alexis Sánchez in the 77th minute, added further gloss to the scoreline in the 88th minute to make it 4–0. Oviedo’s misery was compounded when defender David Carmo was sent off in the 83rd minute after receiving two quick yellow cards.

Just as he has returned to form, Adams will now jet out to the Super Eagles’ camp in Egypt ahead of the AFCON, scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21 to January 18. The 25-year-old has now recorded three goals and three assists in 14 appearances for Los Nervionenses this season.

Adams is among the strikers called up by head coach Éric Chelle as Nigeria aim to challenge for a fourth AFCON title, more than a decade after lifting the trophy last.
