Nigerian striker Akor Adams registered an assist but it was not enough to salvage a result for Sevilla, as Athletic Club edged out a 3-2 victory in their La Liga encounter at San Mamés on Sunday, Bold Sports reports.
Sevilla fought back impressively to level the score after trailing 2-0, but their resilience was undone when Athletic struck late in the 81st minute to seal all three points in front of their home fans.
The Basque side opened the scoring in the 36th minute when Nico Williams earned a penalty and dispatched it with confidence. Moments later, Maroan Sannadi added a second to give the hosts a comfortable lead heading into the break.

Sevilla boss Matias Almeyda introduced Nigerian winger Chidera Ejuke after the restart in search of a response, and the visitors were rewarded shortly after as Dodi Lukebakio curled home a fine effort from distance to halve the deficit.
With the pressure mounting, Sevilla drew level when Adams received a low cross and set up Lucien Agoume, who rifled in a powerful first-time strike into the bottom corner to complete the comeback.
However, Athletic Club restored their lead in the 81st minute as Robert Navarro slotted home following a clever assist from Nico Williams, dashing Sevilla’s hopes of snatching a point.
Following the disappointing defeat, Sevilla will aim to bounce back and avoid back-to-back losses when they host Getafe on Monday, August 25, while Athletic Club will seek to continue their winning momentum against Rayo Vallecano.
