Former Super Eagles Coach Sunday Oliseh has hailed the performance of Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina in Nigeria’s 1-0 win over Ivory Coast in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Thursday.
The Eagles claimed a famous victory over the hosts in their second game of the 2023 AFCON to boost their chances of qualifying for the knockout stage.
While it was Captain William Troost-Ekong who scored the sole goal from the penalty spot after Victor Osimhen was fouled in the penalty box, the Eagles defense were compact throughout, foiling several attempts by the Ivorians.
Oliseh in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, singled out Aina for praise, calling his display a “vintage, Naija like, exceptional performance”.
Oliseh wrote, “Ola Aina! Ola Aina!! Ola Aina!!! What a vintage, Naija like, exceptional performance he put up, as Super Eagles got their groove on to down Cote D’ivoire 1-0. Frank Onyeka & Calvin Bassey worked herculean too! Bravo boys!!”
The Eagles return to action when they play Guinea Bissau in their last group game on Monday, knowing that a draw will be enough to send them through to the next round.
