The reason behind his exclusion was attributed to intense interest from several top European clubs, who were eager to secure his services following his impressive performances in the Serie A, Africa Cup of Nations, and UEFA Europa League.
Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, and Manchester United were among the clubs rumored to be pursuing Lookman. Reports suggested that PSG had even reached a personal agreement with the 26-year-old.
With the transfer window now closed, manager Gian Piero Gasperini finally unleashed the Nigerian star onto the field. Lookman’s impact was immediate, as he played a crucial role in Atalanta’s comeback. In the 27th minute, he provided a superb assist to Mateo Retegui, who equalized Lucas Martínez Quarta’s early opener.
Although Moise Kean briefly put Fiorentina back in front, Atalanta responded with a flurry of goals. Charles De Ketelaere leveled the score in the 45th minute, and Lookman sealed the deal with a stunning strike just one minute later. The victory marked Atalanta’s second win of the season and helped them rebound from a two-match losing streak.
Since joining Atalanta, Lookman has consistently delivered standout performances, contributing significantly to the team’s success through his goals and assists.
