Ademola Lookman was on target in Atalanta’s 2-0 away win at Empoli at the Stadio Carlo Castellani on Sunday, as the Nigeria international continues his impressive form in the Italian Serie A after joining in the summer.
Lookman doubled La Dea’s lead in the 59th minute after Hans Hateboer had scored the opener in the 32nd minute. Atalanta should have been 2-0 up before Lookman’s goal but Teun Koopmeiners’ penalty in the 42nd minute was saved by Guglielmo Vicario.
The goal was Lookman’s fifth of the season having previously scored against Sassuolo, Udinese, Fiorentina and Sampdoria. He has three assists to his name this season.
The Nigerian could have made it a brace in the match in the 75th minute but his close-range effort was saved by Guglielmo Vicario in the Empoli goal.
Nigerian defender, Tyronne Ebuehi, thought he had pulled one back for Empoli in the 85th minute but he was deemed to be offside by referee Giovanni Ayroldi.
The 24-year-old made way for Caleb Okoli in the 88th minute of the encounter, The win sees Atalanta move to second on the table behind Napoli with 27 points while AC Milan and Lazio who both play later in the day are on 26 and 24 points respectively.
