Abia Warriors produced a strong response in the Nigeria Premier Football League on Sunday. They defeated Bendel Insurance 3-0 at the Umuahia Township Stadium. The result came in Matchday Six of the NPFL, Bold Sports reports.
The victory marked Abia Warriors’ second win of the season. They had suffered a 2-0 defeat to Barau in their previous league game. Before that loss, they had also beaten Sporting Lagos 2-0. The latest result therefore moved them back to winning ways.
Abia Warriors take control early
The hosts needed only 16 minutes to break the deadlock. Ikoi Etta found the net to put Abia Warriors ahead.
Emeka Obioma then doubled the advantage eight minutes later. His goal gave the home side a strong grip on the contest.

Obioma struck again in the 40th minute. His second goal completed the scoring before half-time.
Abia Warriors entered the break with a 3-0 advantage. They then protected that lead after the restart to secure a clean sheet.
The result also continued Bendel Insurance’s mixed start to the season. The Benin-based side had won their previous match before Sunday’s defeat. They beat Ikorodu City 2-1 on September 23.
Bendel Insurance suffer another setback
The loss became Bendel Insurance’s third defeat of the season away from home. Their earlier defeats came against Nasarawa United and Ranchers Bees.
Bendel Insurance had also recorded wins over Warri Wolves, Kun Khalifat and Ikorodu City. Their Matchday Six defeat now leaves them needing a response in their next fixture.
Abia Warriors, meanwhile, will take confidence from the emphatic home victory. Their next league assignment comes against Rangers International on October 4.
For Bendel Insurance, the next challenge will come against Barau on October 4. The Benin side will look to recover quickly from the heavy defeat.
