Charlton Athletic’s Arthur Okonkwo has revealed the personal goals he wants to achieve with the Super Eagles, with the goalkeeper targeting Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) success and a place at the World Cup.
The 25-year-old has made two appearances for Nigeria since officially switching his allegiance in April 2026. He featured in the semi-final and final of the 2026 Unity Cup, keeping clean sheets in both games as Nigeria lifted the trophy.
Speaking with PoojaMedia ahead of the Super Eagles’ 2027 AFCON qualifier against Madagascar, Okonkwo opened up on the ambitions he hopes to fulfil with the national team going forward.
“I want to win the AFCON and I wanna compete at the World Cup,” the shot-stopper said.

Okonkwo’s first two games for Nigeria came in London, but the clash against Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo could see him make his first appearance for the nation on home soil.
“I’m super happy. It’s a moment I’ve been waiting for, almost a year trying to get everything sorted, so now I’m just happy to be here and be with my teammates again. It’s a proud moment for me and my family,” he said.
Okonkwo also revealed how much he believes he can contribute to the Super Eagles, stating that he is focused on learning, improving and making an impact whenever his opportunity comes.
“Hopefully, a lot. At the moment it’s still early stages. I wanna be learning from everyone, learning everything. I’ve had my previous camp which was good for me, but I just wanna take things in my stride, keep improving, keep getting better and hopefully one day make a difference to the Super Eagles.”
The Super Eagles will begin their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign against Madagascar on Friday before travelling to face Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, September 29.
