Former Nigeria U20 forward Ahmed Abdullahi has completed a permanent move to Turkish Super Lig side Eyupspor, ending his time at Sunderland, Bold Sports reports.
The Turkish club confirmed the transfer through its official Facebook channel on Tuesday, with the financial details of the deal kept private. Abdullahi leaves the English club despite still having two years left on his contract as he begins a fresh chapter in his career.
Before securing his move, Abdullahi enjoyed an impressive campaign with Sunderland’s development squad. The 22-year-old scored four goals in just three Premier League 2 matches and also found the net in a 3-1 victory over Arsenal U21. His contributions helped the Black Cats reach the Premier League Cup final, underlining the attacking quality he consistently displayed despite missing out on senior competitive action.
Abdullahi arrived at Sunderland from Belgian club Gent in August 2024 with hopes of progressing into the first team. Although he never made his competitive debut, he came close on several occasions.
The Nigerian striker earned places in Sunderland’s matchday squads for Carabao Cup and FA Cup fixtures against Huddersfield Town and Port Vale last season. However, he remained an unused player before completing his switch to Turkey.
His performances at youth level nevertheless attracted attention, with his finishing ability and movement making him one of the standout attackers in Sunderland’s academy setup.
Abdullahi also has valuable international experience with Nigeria. He represented the Flying Eagles at the 2023 Africa U20 Cup of Nations and made an important contribution during the tournament.
The forward scored in Nigeria’s victory over Tunisia in the third-place playoff, helping the Flying Eagles finish the competition on a positive note.
Eyupspor will now hope the Nigerian can translate his development-level scoring form into consistent performances in the Turkish Super Lig. The move offers Abdullahi an opportunity for regular first-team football as he looks to continue his development and establish himself at senior level.
