Favour Ashe made a brilliant start to his 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign in Glasgow on Monday, clocking 10.10 seconds (+1.5) to win Heat One of the men’s 100m and book his place in the semifinals.
The Nigerian sprinter dominated the race from start to finish, comfortably holding off Kenya’s Meshack Kitsubuli Babu, who finished second in 10.21s. Guyana’s Akeem Stewart and Gabon’s Wissy Moukoula both clocked 10.55s for third and fourth respectively, while Anguilla’s Trenton Brooks finished fifth in 10.67s.
Brunei’s Md Nazul Firdaous placed sixth in 10.81s, with Togo’s Komi Konu crossing the line seventh in 11.10s.
Ashe is one of three Nigerians entered in the men’s 100m in Glasgow. Nicholas Fakorede is scheduled to compete in Heat 10 later on Monday, while Kayinsola Ajayi has already secured a place in the semifinals after receiving a bye.

Elsewhere, Team Nigeria will be represented across several events on Monday. Clinton Opute, Collins Obi Ebingha and Abduljabar Adama will compete in the men’s 100m freestyle swimming heats, while Dorcas Oka will feature in the women’s 50m breaststroke heats.
Oyesade Olatoye is set for the women’s hammer throw, Miracle Ezechukwu will contest the women’s 100m heats, and Nigeria will also chase medals in weightlifting through Onome Didih in the women’s 53kg final and Rafiatu Lawal in the women’s 58kg final.
The day’s programme will conclude with Eucharia Iyiazi competing in the women’s shot put final, Nigeria taking on India in the women’s 3×3 wheelchair basketball event, and Adedapo Opadeji featuring in the women’s 79kg weightlifting final as Team Nigeria continues its quest for medals in Glasgow.
