Nicholas Fakorede joined compatriots Favour Ashe and Kayinsola Ajayi in the semifinals of the men’s 100m at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after finishing second in Heat 10 on Monday.
The Nigerian sprinter clocked 10.21 seconds (1.4) to secure automatic qualification, finishing behind Lesotho’s Mojela Koneshe, who stormed to victory in 10.07s to set a new national record.
Koneshe produced the standout performance of the heat, while Fakorede comfortably held off the rest of the field to ensure Nigeria had a third representative in the next round.
Singapore’s Marc Brian Louis finished third with a season’s best time of 10.38s, just ahead of Kenya’s Mark Odhiambo, who also ran 10.38s. Eswatini’s Thandaza Culolethu Zwane placed fifth in 10.69s, Vanuatu’s Toho Joshua recorded a personal best of 10.91s in sixth, while Saymon Rijo-Morris of the Turks and Caicos Islands finished seventh in a season’s best 11.42s.

Fakorede’s qualification came only a few minutes after Favour Ashe booked his place in the semifinals with a commanding victory in Heat One. Ashe clocked 10.10s (+1.5) to finish ahead of Kenya’s Meshack Babu, who came second in 10.21s.
Kayinsola Ajayi progressed to the semifinals with a bye, ensuring Nigeria will have three sprinters in Tuesday’s men’s 100m semifinals as they continue their quest for medals.
Among the trio, Ashe brings previous Commonwealth Games medal experience, having won bronze with Nigeria’s men’s 4x100m relay team at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
