Nigeria’s U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, continued preparations for the 2026 WAFU B U20 Championship with a 2-1 victory over Ivorian Ligue 2 side Athlétique Club de Zuénoula in a closed-door friendly at the INPHB Stadium in Yamoussoukro on Thursday.
Gift Subi opened the scoring for the Flying Eagles before substitute Muiz Adeleke added the second goal to seal the win for Abdu Maikaba’s side.
The friendly served as part of the team’s final test ahead of the start of the regional championship, where Nigeria will be aiming to claim the title they won in 2024.
The Flying Eagles will begin their campaign against rivals Ghana’s Black Satellites at the Lycée Scientifique on Monday afternoon in a repeat of the 2024 final.

Nigeria will be hoping to carry the momentum from Thursday’s friendly victory into the competition as they bid to reclaim the WAFU B U20 crown.
The 2026 WAFU B U20 Championship doubles as a qualifier for the 2027 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations, which Ghana will host. The Black Satellites have already booked their spot as hosts, leaving the remaining teams to scrap for the other berths.
