Bendel Insurance striker Alex Oweifaleya has been named the League Bloggers’ Best Young Player of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season following an impressive breakthrough campaign with the Benin-based club, Boldsportsng.com report.
The young forward received the award during the Cordis Hotel Classic held at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday night. He described the recognition as a major motivation and said it would inspire him to achieve even more in his career.
Oweifaleya enjoyed a memorable first NPFL season, finishing with 15 goals in all competitions. He scored 10 league goals and added five more in the FA Cup. His remarkable hat-trick against Ikorodu City became one of the defining moments of his campaign and played a key role in securing the individual honour. His performances also earned him a new three-year contract with Bendel Insurance, underlining the club’s belief in his long-term potential.
Speaking after receiving the award, Oweifaleya thanked everyone who contributed to his development.

The striker paid special tribute to coach Greg Ikhenoba, whom he credited for discovering him during his time at OYC of Warri, an NLO club in Delta State, and giving him the opportunity to play in the NPFL.
He also expressed gratitude to Bendel Insurance head coach Kennedy Boboye and the club’s entire technical crew for believing in him throughout the season.
Oweifaleya further acknowledged the support of Edo State Sports Commission Executive Chairman, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, describing his encouragement and fatherly guidance as invaluable during his development.
The forward also thanked his teammates and the Bendel Insurance supporters for standing behind him throughout his successful campaign.
The Best Young Player award marks another milestone in Oweifaleya’s rapid rise. After a prolific debut season and a contract extension, he now looks set to remain an important figure for Bendel Insurance as the club prepares for the new campaign.
