Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan delivered another commanding performance on Saturday, racing to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles at the New Taipei Athletics Open in Taiwan.

The world record holder clocked 12.72 seconds into a slight headwind of -0.3m/s to set a new meet record and comfortably finish ahead of the rest of the field.

Taiwan’s Bo Ya Zhang was a distant second in 13.17s as Amusan underlined her superiority from the start, taking control of the race and never looking threatened.

The victory continues a positive outdoor campaign for the Nigerian, who has shown encouraging form in the early months of the season as she builds towards the major championships later this year.

Amusan arrived in Taiwan as the standout name in the field and lived up to expectations with a composed and efficient display, adding another title to her growing collection of international victories.

The 28-year-old remains Africa’s greatest sprint hurdler and one of the most accomplished athletes in Nigerian athletics history, having won the world title and set the current world record of 12.12s in 2022.

While Saturday’s race did not require her very best, the ease with which she secured victory will provide further confidence as she continues preparations for the biggest events of the season.
