Ademola Lookman has warned that Atlético Madrid must be ready for a fierce battle when they face Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League semi-final, describing the fixture as both “very tough” and emotionally significant.
Ademola Lookman will be part of the Atlético squad heading into the decisive clash at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday, with the Spanish side aiming to secure a strong result against Arsenal.
Lookman has made an immediate impression since joining Atlético Madrid in the winter window. He has recorded two goals and two assists in six Champions League appearances this season, including a decisive goal in the quarter-final second leg against FC Barcelona. That contribution proved vital in Atlético’s progression and highlights his growing influence in Diego Simeone’s system.
Speaking before the semi-final, Lookman did not underestimate the challenge ahead.
”They are a very tough opponent, a top team, we have to be ready to fight. It’s the Champions League semi-finals, there are no easy opponents at this point. It will be a very tough match.”
The Nigeria international also revealed the personal weight of the encounter, given his roots in London.
”For me it’s emotional. I grew up in London. The first time was with Charlton, when I was a child. Being from London it is a very special match. What I want is to win.”
Lookman credited manager Diego Simeone for his recent growth, pointing to clear improvements in his all-round play.

”In every way. My defense is better. I’m
more intense, more backward-looking. I think I’m a more complete player.”
He also emphasized the importance of trust within the squad.
”The confidence of the coach is great, helping the team, the confidence of the teammates, makes you more confident. That’s what we have to do.”
After missing recent matches, Lookman confirmed he has returned to training ahead of the tie.
”I feel better, I’ve already trained. I missed the last few games.
He expects the home atmosphere to play a key role in the first leg.
”As long as we have with us, he will give us a special power. Having our fans behind us is special, the atmosphere at home, the energy it gives us.”
With Lookman regaining fitness and delivering in Europe, Atlético Madrid head into the semi-final with renewed attacking depth. His form, combined with home support, could prove decisive against an Arsenal side chasing a place in the final.
The stage is now set in Madrid—where fine margins, emotion, and execution will decide who takes the advantage in this high-stakes Champions League encounter.
