Valencia head coach Carlos Corberan highlighted his side’s improved control after the break following their 2-1 win over Girona FC in La Liga on Saturday, pointing to Sadiq Umar’s key contribution in the result.

‎Speaking after the match, Corberan stressed how Valencia grew into the game and capitalized on their second-half dominance at the Mestalla.

‎Sadiq continues to deliver at a crucial stage. He has now scored in back-to-back league matches, including a goal against Mallorca in the previous game. Since his January move from Real Sociedad, the Nigerian forward has scored five goals. His form has helped Valencia move five points clear of the relegation zone.

The first half saw limited attacking action. Both sides struggled to create chances.

‎Valencia stepped up after halftime. Largie Ramazani opened the scoring early in the second half. Minutes later, Sadiq doubled the lead, heading in a delivery from José Gayà.

‎Girona pulled one back through Joel Roca, but Valencia held their shape to secure the win.

‎Corberan then pointed to Valencia’s control after the break as the key difference in the match.

‎“It was a very difficult match. We knew it would be because Girona are so hard to control; they dominate possession,” Corberan said.

‎“They tried something different today, but our players’ energy was key. We had more control in the second half; I think we were the better team until the second goal. When you desperately need points, a goal like that affects you emotionally.”

‎The result moves Valencia CF into 12th place with five games left. The team now holds a five-point advantage above the relegation zone, giving them a stronger position heading into the final stretch.
