Victor Osimhen has stepped into a leadership role at Galatasaray ahead of their crucial Süper Lig clash with Fenerbahçe.
The Nigerian striker addressed his teammates before the high-stakes derby, urging focus as the title race enters a decisive phase.
The Intercontinental Derby comes at a critical moment in the Turkish Süper Lig season. Galatasaray lead the table by four points over Fenerbahçe, with only four matches left to play.
Osimhen has been central to Galatasaray’s campaign this season. He has made 30 appearances across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists. He also returned recently from injury, featuring in the team’s last outing after about five weeks out. His presence remains vital as the club pushes for the title.
The forward showed leadership immediately after his return. Following Galatasaray’s 2-0 defeat to Gençlerbirliği in the Turkish Cup, Osimhen was seen consoling goalkeeper Günay Güvenç, who faced criticism from supporters.

His actions continued into pre-derby preparations. According to Fanatik, he delivered a strong message to lift the squad’s morale ahead of the decisive fixture.
Speaking to his teammates, Osimhen said:
”A very important match awaits us. Like everyone else, I’m eagerly anticipating it. Now is not the time to be upset.
We’re going into an important match for the championship, and we need to prepare ourselves well.”
His words underline the importance of the upcoming clash, which could shape the outcome of the title race.
With a narrow lead at the top, Galatasaray cannot afford a slip. Fenerbahçe remain within reach, while Trabzonspor trail further behind. The derby is expected to play a major role in deciding the champions.
Osimhen’s influence, both on and off the pitch, could prove decisive as Galatasaray aim to maintain their advantage and move closer to securing the league title.
