Victor Osimhen has made his intentions clear ahead of Galatasaray’s upcoming Süper Lig clash with Gençlerbirliği, openly stating his desire to feature despite ongoing fitness concerns.
The Nigerian striker remains a key figure this season, scoring 12 goals in 19 league appearances. He has consistently delivered when fit and played an important role in Galatasaray’s title push. His attacking presence has often shaped tight matches, making his availability crucial as the campaign reaches a decisive stage.
Reports from Spor Gecesi Digital, via journalist Gökhan Dinç, revealed the forward’s direct message to the club. He said, “I want to play in the Gençlerbirliği match.”
That request reflects his urgency to return to action. However, the club’s technical and medical teams are not willing to take unnecessary risks at this point of the season.
Dinç explained the internal stance, stating: “the technical staff and doctors consider it extremely risky for Osimhen to start in the first eleven before the Fenerbahçe derby. Therefore, I don’t expect Osimhen to start in the Gençlerbirliği match.”

Instead of a full return, Galatasaray are expected to reintroduce him gradually. The current plan focuses on controlled minutes off the bench.
Dinç added: “Osimhen will play in the last 15-20 minutes of the Gençlerbirliği match, regardless of the score. The main preparation is to get Osimhen ready for the Fenerbahçe derby.”
This approach underlines the club’s priority—long-term fitness over short-term impact. With a crucial derby against Fenerbahçe on the horizon, Galatasaray aim to have their top striker fully ready rather than risk a setback.
