Super Eagles duo Paul Onuachu and Chibuike Nwaiwu were on target, while veteran forward Anthony Nwakaeme provided an assist as Trabzonspor claimed a crucial 3-1 win over Galatasaray on Saturday, closing the gap to just one point behind the league leaders.
Trabzonspor came into the match aiming to build on their impressive six-match winning run. They came up against a Galatasaray side eager to bounce back following their UEFA Champions League elimination at the hands of Liverpool.
The visitors, however, were without talisman Victor Osimhen, who has been sidelined with an arm injury sustained during the round of 16 encounter.
The hosts made a flying start and took the lead as early as the third minute. Wagner Pina found space on the right flank and whipped in a superb cross, which Onuachu met with a clinical header to make it 1-0.

Trabzonspor held onto their advantage until few minutes into the second half when Wilfried Singo equalised to make it 1-1. However, Nwaiwu restored the lead in the 62nd minute, heading home Nwakaeme’s well-delivered free-kick to put the hosts back in front.
Galatasaray continued to push for another equaliser, but Trabzonspor stood firm defensively to seal all three points and move within touching distance of the top spot.
The result keeps the title race finely poised, with Galatasaray still leading on 64 points with a game in hand, Trabzonspor now on 63 points in second, while Fenerbahce sit third with 60 points.

Onuachu’s latest goal takes his league tally to 22 this season, strengthening his position as the top scorer. Nwaiwu, who recently made his Super Eagles debut during the March international break, now has three goals to his name this campaign.
