The three Nigerian players left in the UEFA Champions League will all face Premier League opponents in the round of 16 after the draw which took place at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday.

The draw included the eight winners of the two-legged knockout phase play-offs alongside the top eight sides from the league phase. The league phase top eight were seeded while the winners of the play-offs were unseeded.

The draw was conducted by host Pedro Pinto, UEFA deputy general secretary Giorgio Marchetti, and 2015 Champions League winner Ivan Rakitic.

After securing a 7-5 aggregate victory over Juventus in the play-offs, Victor Osimhen’s Galatasaray will face another huge tie as they go against Premier League champions Liverpool. Both sides already faced earlier this season during the league phase, with Osimhen scoring to lead the Turkish side to a 1-0 win on that occasion.

Meanwhile, Ademola Lookman’s Atletico Madrid, who eliminated Raphael Onyedika’s Club Brugge in the play-offs, will battle Tottenham in the round of 16. Lookman has had an impressive start to life in Spain with seven goal contributions in seven games, and he will aim to continue that run against Spurs.

Nathan Tella’s Bayer Leverkusen got arguably the toughest task of the round as they will meet another Premier League side Arsenal. The Gunners are unbeaten in the Champions League this season and finished top of the league phase.
