Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi delivered a standout performance, scoring once and providing an assist as Fulham cruised to a 3-1 win over Sunderland to halt their three-game losing streak in the Premier League, Bold Sports reports.

The Cottagers had gone into the clash on the back of consecutive defeats to Manchester United, Everton and Manchester City, leaving them in urgent need of a positive result. They faced a stern test against a Sunderland side that had suffered just one home defeat all season.

After a cagey opening half devoid of clear-cut chances, Fulham found the breakthrough nine minutes after the restart. Raul Jiménez climbed highest to nod home Iwobi’s corner in the 54th minute, handing the visitors a deserved 1-0 lead.

Fulham doubled their advantage shortly afterwards, with another Nigerian playing a key role. Defender Calvin Bassey was brought down in the box after his shirt was tugged by Brian Brobbey, leading to a penalty. Jiménez stepped up and calmly dispatched the spot-kick, sending goalkeeper Robin Roefs the wrong way to make it 2-0.

Sunderland pulled one back in the 76th minute through a penalty of their own, converted by Enzo Le Fée. However, Fulham wrapped up the victory in the 85th minute when Harry Wilson threaded a precise pass into Iwobi’s path, and the midfielder clinically finished past Roefs to seal the win at 3-1.

The result lifts Fulham to 10th place on the table with 37 points from 27 matches, keeping their hopes of European qualification alive. Sunderland, meanwhile, drop to 12th following only their second home defeat of the campaign at the Stadium of Light.

Iwobi’s latest contribution takes his tally to three goals and three assists in the Premier League this season. He will look to maintain his fine form when Marco Silva’s men welcome Tottenham next Sunday.
