Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has expressed his delight after making his UEFA Champions League debut for Atletico Madrid in a pulsating 3-3 draw against Club Brugge on Wednesday night, Bold Sports reports.
The Nigerian international, who completed a January move from Atalanta, has wasted no time settling into life in Spain and carried his impressive form into Europe’s elite competition.
Atletico started brightly in the knockout phase play-off clash and raced into a two-goal lead before the break. Lookman marked his Champions League bow for the club in style, netting Atletico’s second goal to put Diego Simeone’s men firmly in control heading into half-time.

However, the Belgian hosts responded strongly after the interval. Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika pulled one back for Club Brugge in the 52nd minute, igniting hopes of a comeback. Just eight minutes later, Tresoldi restored parity as the home side clawed their way back to 2-2.
The drama continued deep into the second half. Atletico appeared to have snatched victory in the 79th minute when Ordoñez turned the ball into his own net, handing the Spanish side a 3-2 advantage. But Club Brugge refused to surrender. Onyedika was again influential, providing the assist for Tzolis, who struck in the 89th minute to earn a dramatic 3-3 draw.
Reacting to the entertaining encounter on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Lookman expressed happiness with his personal milestone while turning attention to the decisive second leg.
“Happy to make my debut in the Champions League for this club. 90 minutes to play for it all at the Metropolitano,” Lookman wrote.
The 28-year-old has now registered five goal contributions in five appearances for Atletico Madrid (three goals and two assists), underlining his bright start since arriving from Italy.
With everything still to play for, Atletico will host the return leg next Tuesday at the Metropolitano, where a place in the round of 16 awaits the winner.
