Nigeria National League side Sporting Lagos have announced the transfer of highly rated 18-year-old striker Yusuf Abdullahi to Danish club Aarhus Fremad.

Abdullahi joined Sporting Lagos in 2023 and was among the first intake of academy players when the club was established. He represented the club in several youth competitions, including the prestigious Gothia Cup, and also featured at senior level in the Nigeria National League.

Aarhus Fremad confirmed the signing, revealing that the explosive young forward impressed during his trial period with the club.

“Yusuf has trained with Fremad on two occasions, where he showed himself to be an exciting striker with great potential,” said club director Jesper Blicher. “The collaboration with Sporting Lagos made the transfer possible, and we look forward to seeing Yusuf in the Fremad shirt.”

Abdullahi’s journey is a remarkable one, having once contemplated quitting football altogether, with the alternative of selling sachet water on the streets. He will now be hoping to make his mark in Denmark, with ambitions of earning a move to a bigger European market.
