Super Eagles striker Akor Adams continued his impressive form in the La Liga, scoring for the second consecutive game to help Sevilla secure a 2-1 win over Athletic Club in a thrilling mid-table clash on Saturday, Bold Sports reports.

Akor Adams who came off the bench to score a late brace in Sevilla’s previous league outing, started the game against Athletic Club and once again showed his quality, scoring the winning goal as Matias Alymeda’s side ended a run of four league games without a win.

Robert Navarro had given the visitors the lead in the 40th minute but Sevilla responded almost immediately as Gerard Fernandez found the back of the net two minutes later, leveling the scoreline going into half time.

10 minutes into the second half, the hosts were awarded a penalty after Yuri Berchiche committed a handball offense inside the box. After a VAR check, the spot kick was given and Akor Adams stepped up confidently, burying it into the bottom left corner to complete the comeback.

Athletic Club pushed desperately to find an equaliser, but Sevilla held onto their lead to secure victory, condemning the visitors to another away defeat, their seventh in 11 league matches this season.

The result means that Sevilla climb above Athletic Club into 11th position. Both teams are on 24 points after 21 games, but Sevilla lead with goal difference, and are now five points clear of the relegation zone.

Matias Almeyda’s side will hope to secure another victory when they travel to face Mallorca in their next league game on Monday, February 2. Meanwhile, Athletic Club turn their attention to the Champions League where they will host Sporting CP on Wednesday.

Akor Adams strike means he has now scored six La Liga goals this season, his most in a league season since the 2023-24 campaign when he netted eight goals for Montpellier.
