Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie continued her fine form in England on Friday night, keeping her second consecutive clean sheet as Brighton edged Toni Payne’s Everton 1-0 in their Women’s Super League clash, Bold Sports reports.

Nnadozie had also shut out Nottingham Forest in Brighton’s 2-0 FA Cup victory last weekend, and the Nigerian shot-stopper once again proved decisive as the Seagulls recorded their fifth league win of the season.

Brighton took the lead in the 41st minute when Serbian forward Jelena Cankovic found the net for the second game running, giving the visitors a deserved advantage going into the break.

Everton, who also started Super Falcons forward Toni Payne, dominated possession for large spells of the second half as they pushed for an equaliser. However, Brighton remained resolute at the back, with Nnadozie and her defence standing firm to see out the win and end a two-game losing streak in the league.

The victory lifts Brighton to sixth place on the WSL table with 17 points, six behind third-placed Arsenal, who have a game in hand. Everton, meanwhile, remain 10th with eight points, four above bottom side Liverpool.

Brighton will look to build on the momentum of their victory when they host London City Lionesses on Sunday, February 1, while Everton, now on a run of three straight league defeats, will be hoping to return to winning ways when they welcome Aston Villa.

Nnadozie has now kept four clean sheets in the league this season, placing her joint second among goalkeepers in the WSL. Only Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton and Tottenham’s Lize Kope, both with five clean sheets, have recorded more.
