Nigeria’s sole representative on the continent, Rivers United, will be targeting their first win of the ongoing CAF Champions League group stage when they face Zambia’s Power Dynamos at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe on Saturday.
Both sides are yet to register a point in Group A, having lost their opening two matches to defending champions Pyramids FC and Moroccan outfit RS Berkane.
With qualification hopes hanging in the balance, Saturday’s encounter presents a crucial opportunity for either team to revive their campaign and secure their first maximum points.
Power Dynamos and Rivers United currently sit atop their respective domestic leagues, setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying clash between two sides eager to make a statement in a tightly contested group.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Rivers United head coach George Finidi acknowledged the challenge but stressed that his team’s focus is firmly on securing all three points.
“I think it’s going to be an interesting match. We’ve both lost two games, so we expect both teams to do their best to try and win,” Finidi said at the pre-match press conference.
“It’s an away game for us, so we have nothing to lose. We have to go for the win if we want to achieve something in this tournament. It’s going to be an open game, with both teams looking to go forward and get a result, so we’re expecting a good contest.”

Finidi added that Rivers United must start taking points immediately if they are to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout phase alive, beginning with the clash against Power Dynamos.
“Our goal is to qualify from the group, and it starts with this game. We’re going into the match with the mindset to compete, match them, and see how we can get the best result here. Even though it’s an away game, we have to approach it positively.”
