Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has expressed his pride following Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Bold Sports reports.
The Super Eagles secured the bronze medal after a tense penalty shootout victory over Egypt at Casablanca on Saturday, concluding their tournament on a high note after an impressive run.
The result earned Nigeria their ninth AFCON bronze medal, the highest recorded by any nation in the competition’s history. Remarkably, the team did not lose any game in regular time and did not concede a goal in the knockout stages.

Speaking to the media after the match, Ogbu, one of the Nigerian debutants at the tournament, shared his excitement over the achievement. “I think the team is amazing. I love this team. I think this is one of the best teams we have ever had. I’m new here but for me I’m really proud of this team.”
The 25-year-old, who plays for Slavia Prague and made two starts during the tournament, also reflected on his personal journey to the continental stage. “My family have always supported me to be in this position so I’m really happy and proud.”
Ogbu will aim to build on the valuable experience he gained at AFCON 2025, as he continues to develop and positions himself to become a crucial player for the Super Eagles in upcoming tournaments.
