Victor Boniface’s goal drought stretched to 10 consecutive games after he failed to score in Werder Bremen’s dramatic 1–1 draw against Köln in their Bundesliga clash on Saturday.

Boniface, who joined Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer in search of more playing time, has endured a challenging spell in northwestern Germany.

Marco Friedl put the hosts ahead in the 22nd minute, and although Keke Topp appeared to double the lead in the 55th minute, his effort was overturned for offside after a VAR review. Köln then snatched a 91st-minute equaliser through Said El-Mala.

Boniface replaced Topp in the 70th minute but was unable to find the breakthrough despite his 20-minute cameo. The 24-year-old, however, has registered two assists in 10 appearances this season.

He will be hoping to end his barren run when Bremen travel to face Hamburger SV next Sunday.

Bremen currently sit eighth on the Bundesliga table with four wins, four draws and four losses, but they remain winless in their last two matches.
