…Edna Imade was on Super Falcons radar

Super Falcons have missed out on Real Sociedad Femenino forward Edna Imade after the 25-year-old chose to represent Spain at the senior level, Bold Sports reports.

Imade has been named in Spain’s 25-player squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League doubleheader against Germany on November 28 and December 2. Her inclusion effectively ends any prospect of her featuring for Nigeria after years of speculation and discussions involving her family.

Born in Morocco in 2000 to Nigerian parents who were migrating to Europe from Benin City via the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean, Imade remained eligible for both Nigerian and Spanish citizenship. Imade is on loan at Real Sociedad from Bayern Munich.

Should she make her debut for La Roja against Germany, she will become permanently tied to Spain under FIFA eligibility rules.

In a January interview, Imade had expressed openness to representing Nigeria despite strong interest from Spain.

Imade has been one of the standout players in the Spanish Liga F this season. She is currently third on the goalscorers’ chart with seven goals, behind Barcelona Femenino’s Ewa Pajor and Claudia Pina, and has also provided three assists.

Her penalty on November 2 ended Barcelona’s 10-game unbeaten run this season. She was also recently named Liga F’s Player of the Month for October following a string of impressive performances.

Imade now joins a star-studded Spanish attack featuring some of the world’s best forwards, and will compete with the likes of Pina, Alba Redondo, Esther González and Eva Navarro for a place in the starting lineup.
