Amy Okonkwo’s 17-point effort was not enough to save Beşiktaş from falling 87-82 to Polish side Gorzów in their opening game of the 2025 EuroCup.

Head coach Ayhan Avcı started with Pelin Bilgiç, Migna Traoré, Nikolina Milić, Amy Okonkwo, and Maria Fasoula in his first five.

After beginning the season with a win in the Turkish Women’s Basketball League, Beşiktaş had hoped to carry that momentum into Europe, but instead suffered its first setback of the campaign.

The Turkish side went into halftime with a 48-42 lead, but a spirited third quarter from the hosts, who outscored Beşiktaş 24-12, swung the game in Gorzów’s favour. Despite rallying in the final quarter (22-19), Beşiktaş could not overturn the deficit.

Okonkwo was one of three Beşiktaş players to hit double figures, finishing with 17 points and six rebounds. Bilgiç led the scoring with 25 points, while Milić added 21 points and six assists.

For Gorzów, Ashley Owusu stole the show with a game-high 28 points, six rebounds and six assists. Courtney Hurt posted a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, Stephanie Reid contributed 20 points, and Weronika Telenga added 10 points alongside a game-best 12 rebounds to seal the win.

Beşiktaş now turn its attention to a tough Turkish league clash against Galatasaray on Sunday before returning to EuroCup action against Greece’s Athinaikos next Thursday.
