Warri Wolves returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over 10-man Barau FC in Kano, while Abia Warriors also edged Kwara United 1-0 away from home in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday seven clash.

Wolves had started the season brightly with back-to-back wins over Katsina United (away) and Enugu Rangers (home), but went on a four-game winless run, losing three and drawing once.

That poor spell included defeats to champions Remo Stars (away), El Kanemi Warriors (away), and Shooting Stars (home), plus a goalless draw against Kwara United, a run that led to the suspension of head coach Napoleon Aluma.

Determined to turn their fortunes around, Wolves showed more grit in Kano. Justus Ohanu netted the decisive goal in the 29th minute, calmly finishing off a well-timed through ball that split Barau’s defence.

The hosts tried to claw their way back but were hampered after Emmanuel Okoko was shown a red card in the 74th minute. Wolves held firm to seal all three points, moving up to eighth on the table with three wins, three losses, and one draw.

At the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl Stadium in Ilorin, Abia Warriors earned their fourth win of the season with a narrow 1-0 triumph over Kwara United.

Emeka Obioma struck three minutes into the second half to give the Umuahia-based side a morale-boosting result following their recent CAF Confederation Cup exit.

The win lifts Abia Warriors to third place on the NPFL standings after six games, while Kwara United drops to 10th on the table, compounding the woes of their CAF Confederation cup exit at the hands of Ghana’s Asante Kotoko.
