Rangers manager Russell Martin has hinted that striker Cyriel Dessers could be included in the squad for tonight’s UEFA Champions League playoff first-leg clash against Club Brugge at Ibrox.

Dessers picked up a knock in Rangers’ 2-1 loss to Viktoria Plzen last week in their Champions League third qualifying round match.

He missed his side’s 4-2 win over Alloa Athletic on Saturday, sparking concerns about his availability. However, Martin has eased fears of a serious setback for the Nigerian forward, who netted 29 goals in 55 appearances across all competitions last season.

Rangers will be aiming to secure a strong advantage in their push for a Champions League group stage spot, with a solid home performance against the Belgian champions seen as crucial. Having their leading striker available would provide a significant boost.

Speaking ahead of the tie, Martin revealed that Dessers remains a doubt, but there is still a chance he could be named in the matchday squad.

“Big Cyriel is probably the only concern. He’ll be touch-and-go. He’s responded really well to treatment. It was nowhere near as bad as we first feared. So if it’s not tomorrow (Tuesday), we expect him to be back for the weekend and next week,” Martin said.
