Elijah Akanni bids emotional farewell to Enyimba

Elijah Akanni has penned an emotional farewell to Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Enyimba following his release at the expiration of his contract, Bold Sports reports.

The 23-year-old midfielder was among the 22 players let go by Enyimba on Monday as part of an ongoing squad overhaul ahead of the new season.

Elijah spent three successful years with the Aba-based side after joining from MFM FC in the summer of 2022. He was part of the squad that lifted the NPFL title in the 2022/23 season.

In his farewell message, Elijah expressed gratitude to the club’s management, coaching staff, teammates, and fans for their support during his time at Enyimba, while wishing them success in the coming campaign.

“To the chairman, staff, my teammates, and fans of Enyimba, thank you for the wonderful journey. It’s been an honour to wear the jersey and play for one of the biggest and best football clubs in Nigeria and Africa,” the midfielder posted on X.

“As I move on, I’m grateful for the fond memories we created.”

Elijah is reportedly set to join Katsina United after leaving the People’s Elephants.
