A total of 16 players are currently in camp with Nigeria’s senior men’s national basketball team, D’Tigers, as they intensify preparations for the upcoming 2025 FIBA Afrobasket, scheduled to take place from August 12 to 25 in Angola.
The Nigeria Basketball Federation on July 17th had released a 17-man preliminary roster for the competition.
The arrivals of Caleb Agada, Ike Nwamu, and Mohammed Abdulsalam have brought the number of players in camp to 16. Other players already in camp include Josh Okogie, Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, Talib Zanna, Stan Okoye, Mike Nuga, Devine Eke, and Christian Mekowulu.
Also present are Martins Igbanu, Ugo Andrew Simon, Emmanuel Omogbo, Fola Fayemi, Peter Olisemeka, and Kareem Joseph.
Of the 16 players, only three, Caleb Agada, Ike Nwamu, and Josh Okogie, were part of Nigeria’s squad at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which were held in 2021.

A decade after winning their first and only Afrobasket title in Tunisia (2015), D’Tigers will be aiming to make history again by capturing a second continental crown. However, they face a tough challenge in the group stage, where they are drawn alongside defending champions Tunisia, Mozambique, and Cameroon.
Despite the absence of key players such as Gabe Vincent, Precious Achiuwa, Jordan Nwora, Chima Moneke, and several others, D’Tigers remain determined to go all out in their quest for glory in Angola.
The team is expected to play a friendly game against Guinea in their only tune-up game for the competition. The final 12-man roster for the competition is expected to be released after the game.
