Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu has been nominated for the 2025 Women’s Team Coach of the Year Trophy, following his impressive leadership during Nigeria’s triumphant WAFCON campaign.
Madugu’s nomination comes on the back of a tactically astute tournament in which he guided the Super Falcons to their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
His ability to adapt his tactics across various match situations proved decisive as Nigeria navigated a tough route to the final, eventually overcoming hosts Morocco in a thrilling 3-2 victory.
Under his guidance, the team kept four clean sheets, showcased improved defensive organization, and displayed maturity in high-pressure moments — attributes that have earned him recognition at the global level.
Madugu is one of five coaches nominated for the Ballon d’Or’s Women’s Johan Cruyff Trophy, which recognises the best women’s team coach of the year. He is joined by Sonia Bompastor (Chelsea), Arthur Elias (Brazil), Renée Slegers (Arsenal), and Sarina Wiegman (England).
The winners will be revealed at the prestigious awards ceremony later this year.
