Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu has revealed that he has not set a specific goal target for the upcoming 2025/26 season, but his main objective is to score as many goals as possible to help the team achieve its ambitions.

The Nigerian forward made this known ahead of the new Turkish Super Lig season, which kicks off this weekend. However, Trabzonspor will begin their campaign on Monday night, when they host newly promoted Kocaelispor at the Şenol Güneş Spor Complex Papara Park.

Onuachu returns to Trabzonspor on a permanent basis after the club paid €8 million to English side Southampton. The 31-year-old had a successful loan spell during the 2023/24 season, where he impressed with 17 goals and four assists in 25 appearances.

Speaking ahead of the new season, the Super Eagles striker said he’s not limiting himself to a numerical goal target but is focused on contributing effectively to the team’s success.

“I don’t set a specific goal target for myself in terms of numbers. I’m trying to contribute to the team by scoring the highest number of goals possible,” Onuachu said.

With several high-profile signings across the Turkish Super Lig this season, Onuachu expects a highly competitive campaign and warns against underestimating any team based on reputation alone.

“Football has reached a point where every team has the strength to compete with one another,” he said.

“For example, in recent seasons, there were matches where Galatasaray beat Manchester United. Every team and every player can compete. Football is unpredictable—that’s what makes it beautiful.”
