Four Nigerian players have been named in the CAF WAFCON 2024 Best XI, following the Super Falcons’ dramatic 3–2 comeback win over Morocco to seal their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, Bold Sports reports.

Chiamaka Nnadozie, Michelle Alozie, Esther Okoronkwo, and Rasheedat Ajibade were all recognised for their outstanding individual performances throughout the tournament, as Nigeria finished with the most players in the team of the tournament.

Nnadozie, who was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament, kept four clean sheets and conceded just three goals — once from a penalty in the 2–1 semi-final win over South Africa and twice in the final against hosts Morocco.

Alozie made her presence felt on both ends of the pitch. The right back was solid defensively and scored the late winner in the semi-final against South Africa.

Okoronkwo was the engine behind Nigeria’s historic comeback in the final. She calmly converted a penalty to make it 2–1 after Nigeria trailed 2–0 at half time, then assisted Folashade Ijamilusi’s equaliser and Jennifer Echegini’s winner to complete the turnaround.

She was named Player of the Match in the final — her second of the tournament after starring in Nigeria’s 4–0 group opener against Tunisia. She ended the tournament with two goals and six assists.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade also had a tournament to remember. The former Atlético Madrid forward scored from the spot in the semi-final win against South Africa and led the team with determination throughout the competition.

Her performances earned her three Woman of the Match awards and the prestigious Player of the Tournament title.
