Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare emerged as the top scorer of the Belgian Pro League, securing the award with 21 goals to his name.

Arokodare finished the season level on goals with Belgian forward Adriano Bertaccini, but the Nigerian striker clinched the top scorer award by scoring more away goals over the course of the campaign.

Arokodare’s Golden Boot triumph follows his earlier recognition as the best African player in Belgium, having won the prestigious Ebony Shoe Award, edging out strong contenders including Raphael Onyedika, Promise David, Union St. Gilloise’s Noah Sadiki, and his Genk teammate Zakaria El Ouahdi to claim the honour.

Arokodare becomes the second Nigerian to claim a golden boot this season, following Cyriel Dessers who topped the scoring chart in the Scottish Premiership with 18 goals. Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen is just one game away from potentially securing the top scorer award in the Turkish Super Lig with 25 goals.

While Arokodare continues to rack up individual honours, Genk fell short in the title race, as former Nigeria U-23 star Promise Akinpelu led Union Saint-Gilloise to their first Belgian Pro League triumph in 90 years.

However, Genk ended their season on a high note, snapping a six-game winless streak with a 4-1 victory over Gent, and then capping it off with a comeback win against Anderlecht in their final match, courtesy of a brace from Zakaria El Ouahdi.

With the season concluded, Arokodare will now link up with his teammates for the Unity Cup tournament in London, where he is expected to play a key role as Head Coach Eric Chelle aims to try out new players while competing for the trophy.

Afterwards, the 24-year-old will head to Lagos, Nigeria, to participate in the Troost-Ekong Foundation charity match, set for June 22 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
