Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has urged his teammates to give their all and secure maximum points against the Cheetahs of Benin when both teams clash today at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

The Eagles must defeat their West African neighbours to keep their slim hopes of topping Group C alive and qualifying for next year’s FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They will also be hoping South Africa fails to beat Rwanda in Mbombela to boost their qualification chances.

Nigeria are on the verge of missing a second consecutive World Cup, having failed to qualify for the 2022 edition in Qatar. On the other hand, Benin know that a win could see them make history by qualifying for the World Cup for the first time.

Musa, who turns 33 today, has called on the team to deliver the perfect birthday gift: victory.

“We all know what’s at stake, win the game and wait for the other result. I know you can do it. This would be the best birthday gift for me, guys. I miss you all and wish you the best of luck. I know we can do it, let’s do it again today,” Musa said in a goodwill video message to the team.

Musa has been on the fringes of the national team since returning to the Nigeria Premier Football League, where he currently serves as General Manager. He was last invited to the national team for the Unity Cup in England during the summer.
