Napoli and Brazil legend Antonio Careca says Victor Osimhen’s opening goal in Napoli’s 2-1 victory over AS Roma over the weekend was a typical goal scored by football legend Pele and the late Brazilian superstar would have been proud of it.
Osimhen scored a goal that has now been voted Serie A’s Goal of The Month for January against Roma. The Nigeria international comfortably controlled Khvicha Kvaratskhelia floated a pass from the left wing with his chest, flicked it with his thigh before smashing a volley into past Rui Patricio in goal.
Carera who scored 30 goals in 64 appearances for the Brazilian national team and 73 goals in 164 games for Napoli says Osimhen’s goal reminded him of goals scored by Pele who he also said would have applauded the goal scored by the Nigerian.
“Even someone like Pele would’ve been proud of that goal,” Careca told Canale 8 show Legends. “The goal that Osimhen scored against Roma was in the Pele style, it was on a technical level simply incredible.”
The 62-year-old was in the Napoli squad that won the UEFA Cup in 1988/89, the Scudetto in 1989/90 and Supercoppa Italiana in 1990/91 seasons.
Osimhen has had an impressive campaign so far this season scoring 14 league goals in 16 appearances and topping the league’s top goalscorer’s chart.
