Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, is expected to be out of action for three to four weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in Napoli’s 4-1 win over Liverpool in their UEFA Champions League opener on Wednesday.
The Nigeria international was a doubt for the match after missing training on Monday and Tuesday due to a knock suffered in the team’s 2-1 win over Lazio in an Italian Serie A encounter on Sunday.
However, head coach, Luciano Spalletti, started the striker against the English giants but the Super Eagles star only lasted 41 minutes on the pitch as he was taken off due to injury. Before being taken off, he had hit the woodwork just 40 seconds into the match having rounded Liverpool goalkeeper Allison. He also failed to convert a penalty in the 18th minute.
According to a statement from the club on Friday, Osimhen has suffered a hamstring injury. The result was confirmed after diagnostics were carried out on Friday by the medical team.
“As scheduled, Victor Osimhen underwent diagnostic tests this morning which revealed a second degree injury to his right hamstring. The blue striker had already started carrying out therapies yesterday (Thursday).”
He is likely to miss at least three games which include Spezia’s visit to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Saturday, A champions League trip to Glasgow Rangers, a visit to the San Siro to play champions AC Milan on September 18.
The 23-year-old has scored twice in six games across all competitions this season.
