Uzoho not disappointed with United loss, gets De Gea’s praise

Goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, put up a Man of The Match performance in Omonoia’s dying minute 1-0 loss to Manchester United in their UEFA Europa League Group E fixture at the Old Trafford on Thursday, despite the loss, the Nigerian has revealed that he is not disappointed with the defeat.

Uzoho made a total of 12 saves in the encounter but was beaten by Scott McTominay’s close range shot in the 93rd minute which handed the Red Devils the maximum points, leaving Omonia without a point on the board after four group games.

The Nigeria international who was a replacement for first choice Fabiano who was injured over the weekend says he’s not disappointed with the loss stating that as a Manchester United fan, it is an honour to play at the Theatre of Dreams, an experience he would never forget.

“I am not disappointed because we had a great game but I would have preferred we got at least a point but I’m happy because it’s not an easy stadium to play in with these big players but generally, I’m happy with our performance,” Uzoho said after the match.

“Playing against Manchester United is a dream come true for me. I have dreamed of playing here (Old Trafford) for a long time, so when I saw the draw and figured I’ll be playing at Old Trafford, I wanted to play, and I also prayed to God to give me the opportunity, I got it, and I’m happy I played here.”

Omonia head coach, Neil Lennon, has also hailed Uzoho’s performance in the game. “Very proud of this man sitting to my left… he was just world-class today.”

Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea also hailed the performance of the Nigeria International, “Of course. I think he [Uzoho] had an amazing game,” De Gea said in his interview with MUTV.

“I think he made eight or 10 great saves for his team in the game but in the end we scored a goal and for sure he made a great game. I know he played in La Liga in Spain. He had an amazing game and congratulations for him.”
