Union Saint-Gilloise braces for Victor Boniface’s summer exit

President of Belgian Jupiler Pro League side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, Philippe Bormans, has given up on the possibility of the club holding on to in-form Nigerian striker Victor Boniface in the summer.

Boniface, who has had a remarkable breakout season in his maiden campaign, has attracted attention from several top European clubs with his impressive performances.

In his debut season in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, Boniface has managed to find the back of the net 22 times while providing 11 assists in 53 appearances for Les Unionistes. Such stellar numbers have turned the heads of clubs from various leagues, including Napoli, AC Milan, Eintracht Frankfurt, and several others from the Premier League, La Liga, and Ligue 1.

Initially, the club had expressed their desire to retain Boniface and reject any offers for the striker. However, the increasing interest from major European clubs, coupled with lucrative offers, has made it difficult for Union Saint-Gilloise to resist a potential transfer.

Addressing the mounting speculation surrounding Boniface’s future, President Philippe Bormans admitted that it would be challenging to keep hold of the 22-year-old striker, considering the significant number of suitors vying for his signature. Bormans stated, “Is there even a one percent chance that Boniface will stay? Never say never, but that seems very unlikely to me. I can no longer count the interested clubs who are concrete on two hands,” he revealed in an interview with the Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg.

Victor Boniface joined Union Saint-Gilloise from Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt in the summer of 2022, completing a €2.00 million move. However, the Belgian club has now set a staggering price tag of €20 million for the Nigerian striker, reflecting the increased demand and the club’s reluctance to part ways with their prized asset.

As the summer transfer window approaches, the race for Boniface’s signature is expected to intensify. It remains to be seen which club will meet Union Saint-Gilloise’s valuation and secure the services of the highly-talented Nigerian forward. Football fans around the world eagerly await further developments in this transfer saga, as Boniface’s next destination could significantly impact the European football landscape.
