UCL: Osimhen makes scoring return from injury

Victor Osimhen was on target on his return to competitive football for Napoli in their 4-2 win over Ajax Amsterdam in a UEFA Champions League fixture on Wednesday.

Osimhen has been out of action since suffering a knee injury in Napoli’s 4-1 win over Liverpool in their Champions League Group A opener on September 7 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

After missing six matches, the Nigeria international was eased into the game coming on for Giacomo Raspadori in the 49th minute. He scored the fourth goal for Napoli in the 89th minute picking the defender’s pocket and putting the ball into an empty net after a costly miscommunication from the Ajax defender and his goalkeeper.

The Napoli striker was shown a yellow card for removing his shirt after his goal. Osimhen has scored three goals in seven appearances across all competitions for Napoli this season despite his injury woes.

Osimhen’s compatriot, Calvin Bassey, was impressive for Ajax in the encounter. He provided the assist for Steven Bergwijn’s goal in the 49th minute and was also one of the six Ajax players that were shown a yellow card by German referee Felix Zwayer.

Napoli currently tops the group with 12 points followed by Liverpool who are on nine points. Ajex are third with three points from four games while Glasgow Rangers have no points on the board.
