President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima have hailed the Super Eagles after the heroic performance that saw them advance to the final of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
The Eagles beat South Africa 4-2 on penalty after regulation time had ended 1-1 to reach their first final in over a decade where they’ll face hosts Cote d’Ivoire.
Skipper William Troost-Ekong opened the scoring for Nigeria from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute after Victor Osimhen was fouled inside the 18-yard box. At the same time, Bafana Bafana clawed their way back in the 90th minute through Teboho Mokoena, who also beat Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali from the penalty spot.

“We did it!!!! So proud of our Super Eagles for finding that extra tenacity to push through. From Nwabali with the in-match and penalty heroics to Ekong to Osimhen for taking the initiative to help us score in the match and to the silent hero, Coach José Peseiro, everyone dug deep to give us this one. Off to the finals and by God’s grace the Cup.”
