President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the dissolution of the Ministry of Sports Development, transferring its responsibilities to the National Sports Commission (NSC).
This was contained in a statement released by the presidency after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the decision is part of a broader restructuring of ministries to enhance efficiency in government operations.
“The immediate winding up of the Ministry of Sports Development and the transfer of its functions to the National Sports Commission in order to develop a vibrant sports economy,” the presidency said in the statement.
Additionally, the presidency confirmed the appointment of Shehu Dikko as Chairman of the National Sports Commission.
Dikko was the past Chairman of the then League Management Company which superintendent over the Nigeria Professional Football League.
He is returning to a familiar territory having been a consultant at the House of Representatives involved in the drafting the National Sports Commission bill in 2011.
